Shawishi's New Year Skincare Resolutions for 2023!

Shawishi's New Year Skincare Resolutions for 2023!

That's a wrap for 2022! The fun of the festivities are a dwindling memory. The gifts have been given, we've celebrated and partied, we’ve indulged and indulged some more and now our skin may be showing the signs and feeling the effects of a little too much of the good stuff - if ya know what I mean 😉. But it’s a new year, a fresh, clean slate and there’s no better time than the present to set your intentions for the year ahead!

So the question is, are y’all ready to make 2023 the year of healthy, thriving skin?

Here are our Shawishi-approved, top skin care resolutions for 2023:

1. Prevent sun damage by wearing a broad spectrum SPF all day, erryday throughout every season!

Y’all know how important protecting your skin is by now, whatever the day, the weather, the season, SPF is always necessary to prevent premature aging, sun damage and hyperpigmentation.

2. Find out your skin type and treat your skin based on its particular skincare needs.

Everyone’s skin is different, unique and beautiful in its own way. There is no cookie cutter approach when it comes to skincare. Your skin will thrive when you understand how to speak its language, and truly listen to what it needs. If you’re unsure of what skin type you have, and therefore what products will work best for your skincare concerns, we’ve got you boo - we developed our very own QUIZ just for people like you.

3. Hydrate internally by drinking enough water, hydrate externally by using Hyaluronic Acid.

Hydrate internally: I say this a lot because it continues to be relevant, but most of us are chronically dehydrated. We switch up or h20 for coffee and tea and with the holidays just passed.. Some of us have probably indulged a little too much in the 🥂… which dehydrates our skin even more. So drink, drink, drink that water and hydrate your skin from the inside!

Hydrate Externally: If you haven’t jumped on the Hyaluronic Acid hype train yet then you clearly haven’t read our HA blog post 😉... once you read that you’ll know exactly why you need to be using this hydrating humectant on the reg! It’s a game changer! Read all about it here.

4. Eat for your skin

If y’all are anything like me, you’ve eaten a lot of delicious but maybe less than nutritious foods lately.. That’s what the holidays are all about! With that said, now’s the perfect opportunity to show your body and skin a little love through the foods you consume. Think healthy fats, nuts, seeds, salmon, and don’t forget those antioxidant rich greens!

5. It’s time to take a break with alcohol

The festive season can mean excess and over indulgence when it comes to food and alcohol, and whilst it's so much fun whilst it lasts..it’s probably a good thing the holidays don’t last forever!

If you’ve overindulged a little lately, try taking a little break with alcohol. Alcohol dehydrates your body, including the skin – and this happens every time you drink. When you drink, the dehydrating/ diuretic effect of alcohol means your skin loses fluid and nutrients that are vital for plump, healthy-looking skin. This can leave your skin looking dull and in need of some TLC

6. Add a vitamin C serum to your skincare regimen

Vitamin C is amazing for a multitude of reasons, of which I go into deeply in my Vitamin C blog post here. In short, this powerhouse ingredient helps slow down early signs of skin aging, prevents sun damage, and improves the appearance of wrinkles, dark spots, and acne.. Yep, I call it a powerhouse ingredient for a reason!

 7. Use a retinol

Retinol is the holy grail in skincare, period! Adding retinol to your skin care routine will plump up your skin's collagen levels, reduce the visible appearance of dark marks and acne scarring, all while rejuvenating your overall complexion.

8. Look after yourself physically, get enough sleep, reduce stress & move your body

Our physical health is often reflected in our skin. If we’re stressed out, not sleeping and not looking after ourselves, it shows. This is a gentle reminder to show yourself some love and kindness and truly look after yourself in the best way that you can.

9. Consistency is key

Results don't happen overnight, they take time, patience and consistency. I know, I know, it can be frustrating. But haven’t you heard of that saying? Good things come to those who wait!

10. Get the staples down, cleansing, moisturizing etc.

Once you’ve got the basics down ( cleanser, toner, serum, moisturizer and SPF) you’re already on your way to dreamy skin.

Simplicity really is key when it comes to building up a solid skincare routine which will allow your skin to really thrive.

The following products work for all skin types, so are a great place to start if you’re new to skincare.
