INGREDIENTS
The Shawishi Skincare Collection offers professional-strength skincare that targets, treats and protects against the nuances commonly associated with melanated skin, yet our collection suits all skin types, tones, shades, and genders.
Unlike the drug store brands, our products use innovative ingredients with stable formulations demonstrating proven results backed by science.
Dr Sayyida is the creator of the Shawishi Skincare collection. Based in Memphis, Tennessee. She is a board-certified family practitioner and aesthetician interested in facial aesthetics and subtle facial cosmetic enhancements.
After years of working in the former medical office, The Memphis Centre for Aesthetic Medicine. Dr Sayyida was called to formulate her skincare line after witnessing so many patients struggle with skincare concerns like hyperpigmentation (especially common in ethnic skin tones).
Acne, skin textural issues and more so, the hoops her patients were going through on a quest for clear, even-toned skin.
Those who know the products swear by them because Dr Sayyida’s passion ensures only stable, innovative, potent, yet safe to use ingredients make it into our bottles.
We use active ingredients such as Vitamin C, Niacinamide, Passion Fruit Extract and Vitamin E – Why? Because they are safe, tested and clinically proven to show positive results.
We see much fear these days about chemicals, but when you understand that not all chemicals are bad, in fact, using essential oils may worsen your concerns due to the harsh and stepping nature of these ingredients.
Not everything natural is best suited for the skin on your face.
Some chemicals like Hyaluronic Acid are naturally occurring chemicals that exist already within our bodies, and there’s no reason to be nervous about using them.
Yet, Retinol products, if you are pregnant or trying to conceive, we recommend you book a virtual consultation to talk to Dr Sayyida and get a customized regimen tailored to your lifestyle before skincare shopping, or consult with a dermatologist to understand your individual needs.
PROFESSIONAL SKINCARE THAT WORKS
VITAMIN C
As an antioxidant, Vitamin C is a key ingredient to keep your skin looking bright and youthful. First, it helps protect against harmful free radicals by neutralizing them, which, in turn, helps to decrease the visible signs of aging on your face, such as fine lines, wrinkles, dark spots from sun damage, and loss of moisture.
PASSION FLOWER EXTRACT
Passion Flower Extract is full of nutrients that are good for the skin, including Vitamins A & C and essential fatty acids. It's known for protecting the skin against environmental stressors. Passion Flower Extract hydrates and moisturizes the skin without clogging pores, and it's soothing and calming for dry, itchy, and irritated skin.
VITAMIN E
Vitamin E is found naturally on human skin. Vitamin E levels are often depleted due to sun exposure and other environmental irritants. However, Vitamin E has antioxidant properties that can help protect against and limit the damage of harmful free radicals. It can also be used to work synergistically to stabilize otherwise volatile or temperamental ingredients such as Vitamin C, as we demonstrate in our hero product, Nectar Drops.
NIACINAMIDE
Niacinamide is a derivative of Vitamin B3 and is very effective at soothing irritated skin. Thanks to its soothing and antioxidant properties, applying niacinamide to your skin can help minimize the redness and irritation associated with certain skin conditions. Niacinamide also boosts your skin’s ability to retain moisture while increasing the effectiveness of ceramides and rebuilding the skin’s natural protective barrier.
ALPHA ARBUTIN
Alpha Arbutin is a naturally occurring antioxidant and skin brightener naturally found in the bearberry plant. Helping to brighten dark marks, reduce the appearance of hyperpigmentation, as well as prevent new areas of discoloration from forming. Alpha Arbutin works by inhibiting an enzyme known as tyrosinase found in melanocytes.
Melanocytes are cells that control your melanin production. Melanin is that good ole’ magic that is responsible for the level of pigment in our skin.
Niacinamide is a key player in treating hyperpigmentation and dark spots. You will find this superstar in the True Shade serum, our go-to non-hydroquinone skin brightening and illuminating serum.
